Hi-Wire Brewing Opens New Taproom in Birmingham, Alabama

Birmingham, Alabama’s Lakeview District got a new taproom when Hi-Wire Brewing (2901 4th Ave. S, Suite 1A, Birmingham, AL) opened its doors on Sunday, October 2.

The activity-heavy taproom is part of the new Lakeview Green mixed-use development and the anchor tenant of Lakeview Green.

The taproom is near Pepper Place and Birmingham’s Automatic Seafood and Oysters. Hi-Wire is on the ground floor of the 100+ apartment complex in the popular Lakeview area.

Restaurants and other upscale retail merchants will also fill the space in the coming months.

Brews Traveling Women got a sneak peek at the venue before its opening as staff members made plans for the exact opening date and time.

Outside the doors of the 8,887-square-foot taproom, the Lakeview Green campus showcases community access, LEED-accredited architecture, and sustainability with a residents’ garden area, green space with chess and bocce ball, a lazy river, koi pond, and seating.

The Lakeview taproom is the third for the Asheville-based brewery. The company is planning 10 taprooms as it rapidly expands. Expansions are also underway at its Biltmore Village Production and South Slope Specialty breweries in Asheville, and other locations opened in Charlotte, N.C., with Cincinnati near the end of 2022.

Alabama is the fourth state where the company has space. Knoxville (TN), Louisville (KY), Virginia, and Ohio are other additions since Hi-Wire Brewing opened in 2020.

Hi-Wire Birmingham outdoor space
Hi-Wire Birmingham's outdoor space features a flowing river, seating, and games.

Artist Ian Wilkinson (Ian The Painter) created the 360-degree murals that adorn the walls in the Birmingham and Charlotte locations.

The Birmingham Brewery is family-friendly, approachable, pet-friendly, and full of interactive games such as a soccer pool, table tennis, foosball, and shuffleboard. And the brewery at Lakeview Greens features a biking path and city bus routes with parking around the building.

With 20 unique taps of Hi-Wire beer, including flagships, seasonals, specialties, sour and wild ales, and non-alcoholic options, this new brewery will add to Birmingham’s popular hotspots as it gains its footing.

Among its current taprooms, Hi-Wire’s website lists AVL South Slope, AVL Biltmore Village, AVL Rad, Durham, Knoxville, Wilmington, Louisville, Charlotte, Birmingham, and coming soon, Cincinnati and Nashville.

Brew tours are available at the Biltmore Village Production Facility in Asheville.

Beers are available year-round in grocery stores, restaurants, and bottle shops in six-packs of 16-ounce cans, and on draft.
